One Year Blogiversary Survey Responses ft. Me Responding With Snark And Happiness (as per usual) And People Making My Day

Let me see… was there a single response that didn’t make me happy? Uh no.

Most of them made me laugh, but everything I got was super appreciated. Today I am finally!!!! sharing the results with you guys, I hope you like them!

*note: some of these answers were paraphrased because of length. i mention no-one’s name except for one person who i know in real life and asked for permission 🙂 he said yes, unsurprisingly 😉

what posts do you like seeing from me??

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 5.50.27 PM.pngso obviously you guys like my book posts??? which is good, cause…. I’M A BOOK BLOG. tags and book reviews are apparently a no-go, butttt I have a lot of tags piling up so one day I plan to just do a massive post and, uh, you can read it or not but I will probably nominate you!! Cause I’ll need a lot of people haha.

life updates came second, but I only really do them in my monthly wrap ups? which you guys also love tbh. I might do a couple more though occasionally, if you’d like.

img_3989

what posts do you want more of??

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 5.50.49 PM.png(ignore the bottom four options lol)

well, you obviously like learning more about my life, and almost no-one wants more book reviews or tags. which makes sense cause the same happened up above. I also got a response saying “more unique posts”, which I have been trying to do since I got that response (examples/self-promo: here and here (that one was written before my blogiversary even but oh well)). Also (and I quote) ‘more discussion-y posts’ was mentioned? which I guess I could do but for me I don’t feel I could count that as a post and considering the current length of my posts (something else I’m working on) I think any more than 1-2 posts a week is plenty? especially with school too? so let me know if thats something you’d all be interested in and I could make it happen *boom* *mic drop* *picks it up embarrassed to read the next point*

img_3989

what posts do you want less of??

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 5.51.09 PM.pngoh. oh dear. A LOT OF PEOPLE want less tags/reviews. but almost no-one wants less life updates and tags are how you guys can find out more on what’s happening for me rn so I’m really confused? and reviews I think I should do one a month cause I’m a book blog but how can I spice them up a bit (cause I hate writing them too – especially spoiler-free ones because I’ll only review a book I liked and then I want to fangirl about it). PLEASE HELP.

img_3989

are there any posts you’d like me to do??

lotta variations on ‘no’ here. “keep doing what you’re doing” “whatever you like!” “no your blog is amazing” (marshmallows for whoever said that) I ASKED THIS FOR POST IDEAS AND YOU GUYS FAILED. no really the only reason I asked this was in case of serious bloggers block.

however I got some ideas! yay! “a post about calligraphy” (ooh yesss) “any tips you have” (see an answer coming up) “diys” (to the person who asked that one, it’s never gonna happen. sorry!) “more beautiful setups” (aww thank you!) “blog formatting tips” (I want to keep all my secrets!!! but  I can do one if any one wants… maybe like how-i-write-a-post?) “your irl friends lol” (sorry quint that ain’t happening… except if I can interview you? :p) “really want a monthly bujo setup” (see the thing with those is that i can only do them once a month, sorry to disappoint you with that earth-shattering fact) “what brought you to the love of books” (love that one!! thank you!!!)

img_3989

any tags/awards you tagged me for??

which, tbh, probably won’t happen now bc of survey results. and I only got two, one of which doesn’t exist (@myfriendquintistheactualbest, and that… isn’t happening. (quint gave me some hilarious responses *hugs*)

img_3989

what length do you like my posts to be??

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 5.51.30 PM.pngthe vast majority of you said 350-600 words. which I do get, but I tend to ramble (if you hadn’t noticed… meaning you must be new) which brings my posts to between 900-1.5k words. yeah. one person said “as many as deemed necessary”, another said they don’t mind, “Idk *shrugs* 😉” and then “100000000000000000000000000 words or more” was quint. again.

i’ll try to make my posts shorter. (but this one’s already 745… meaning my plans to join the responses with the q+a are decidedly NOT happening)

would you guys mind if I did like 2 part posts? or just one, and stick with the length?

img_3989

what do you think of my design??

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 5.51.59 PM.pngso the vast majority of you answered this before I put my new design into play. here’s a reminder of the old header (so you know what the responses pertain to):

cropped-header2.png

a lot of you (50%) said “I like it.”, just over a quarter really made my day and answered “AHH IT’S SO PRETTY HOW DO I FUNCTION”, someone said “it drop dead gorgeous” (three guesses), “IT’S AMAZING!! I love it, your graphics are on FLEEKKKK!” was another that made me smile, and “the title design is a bit hard to read” was another, but i’ve changed that now 🙂

img_3989

anything you wish i did/had??

lots of variations on “no it’s perfect”, someone wishes I had a dog (hi again quint, I do too), “more unique and diverse posts” (which I am planning for the future hehe), “a fixed sorta post” (I joined Top 5 Tuesday!) “nope I come here and it’s a happy time” (why thank you), “your header looks a bit blurry but otherwise it’s all beautiful!” (thanks! and that was to the old header, how does it look now?), “goodreads” (maybe one day), and then “nothing I would possibly change about your amazing blog <3” (agh I love you! thank you!)

img_3989

anything you wish i didn’t do/have??

“i would tell you if there was something to change” (okay…), “you’re all good *thumbs up*” (thanks!), “perhaps cut back on the tags?” (the last tag I did was jan, and before that in blogmas when i was needing ideas DESPERATELY), “the orange and blue thing that makes up marshmallow harmonies” (okay i have no clue what you mean by this? so if you said that please tell me!! and explain!!), “nope all is well in marshmallow land”, and finally: “have so many pens (gimme some)”

img_3989

questions? queries?? comments???

“what made you want to start blogging” – i’ll add that to my q+a //  “what is ur fav colour” – also adding to the q+a // “ur super cool” – thanks // “do you like pineapple on pizza” – you’ll have to wait until the q+a… // “thank you for being an amazing blogger” – thank you for making my day 🙂 // “I LOVE YOUR BLOG ITS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE OF IT! HAPPY ONE YEAR BLOGGING! 🎉 🎉 🎉 – ily // “your blog is great and so is your personality! so glad i discovered you <3” – aww you too

img_3989

would you want more discussion-y posts? more tags/reviews/life updates? one big review or short mini reviews (or ways I can ~spice~ them up)? anybody want formatting tips? what do you think of my new design (be honest please)? would you guys mind if I did two part posts? or just one, and stick with the length?

thank you so much to everyone who answered, you all made my day by submitting something 🙂 the survey is also still open! i’d be grateful if you took it! link here! i might even do another responses post if i get enough!

love from rhi

p.s. today is the day my hiatus starts!!!! so feel free to comment and everything else but i won’t be responding 😉 i may also end up posting before my hiatus ends, but only because i kind of underestimated the amount of spare time i’d have on holidays and my brain has SO MANY IDEAS for posts. 🙂 ❤

Awesome Book Covers That NEED Appreciation. Period.

Lately I’ve noticed a lot of beautiful book covers out there that no one really comments on. I totally judge a book by it’s cover 😂

Oh yes – I remembered to make an image! Go me! Do… well, what ever you want with it – and if you’re sharing it please credit to Rhiana @ marshmallow harmonies. Righty-o, let’s get into it!

But before I do, I would like to point out that this is NOT a book recommendation post. I am only giving my opinions on their cover – NOTHING ELSE. (with the exception of Words in Deep Blue and Legend – both amazing books 😃). Please do not assume that because it is on here I liked it. Ok, let’s gooooooo!

Words in Deep Blue:

This is quite possibly my favourite book at the moment, and the cover is absolutely gorgeous. If I ever write and publish a book, I want it to be at least half as good as that. And the font OH THE BEAUTIFUL FONT! (I’m a self described font junkie – couldn’t you tell?!) If anybody knows the name of it please hand over the goods. You’ll receive complimentary marshmallows.

36 Questions that Changed my Mind about You:

The little circles with little words ABOUT the book (quirks that you’ll only get if you read it) is actually such a unique idea that I, at least haven’t ever seen before, and don’t ask me how, but it relates to the book so well. I can totally picture both Hildy and Paul liking it.

Legend:

Quite possibly one of the BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN (thank you Marie Lu (oh that rhymed! *does quiet cheer*)), and the cover art is astonishingly breathtaking. Especially the rose on Champion (the final book) oh my sugar cookies it is heart breaking. Read it. Please. For my sanity 😂

The Secret Science of Magic:

Haven’t read this one in a while (a whole lot of these I just plucked from my (extensive) bookshelves) but the hourglass that looks like a playing card is actually so crucial and relatable to the storyline. It’s ok – the banners are meh and the font *shudders*. The colour combos are aesthetically pleasing, and I do love that middle section (with the two faces in circles and hourglass).

The School for Good and Evil:

This– oh, I love this. The realistic yet obviously drawn characters are stunning. The castles Sophie and Agatha look onto are beautifully represented too! And the school crest with the swans, oh! *heart shatters into a million pieces (figuratively)*

I have three words.

Yes. Yes. Yes!

Counting by 7s:

The red fish is really such an accurate showing of Willow. It portrays her P E R F E C T L Y. And the fonts are well matched to the book – even if they aren’t that ‘haute couture’ (instead of fashion, think fonts 😉)

The Harper Effect:

Okay, first of all, THAT FONT IS DIVINE! I w i s h I could do that. The tiny tennis racquets are also so cute! Another thing is that everything looks hand drawn, which for some mysterious reason appeals to me 🤷‍♀️

The Penderwicks:

The silhouettes are AMAZING. Just look at them. Batty with her wings, and Hounds little tail – oh, it’s simply exquisite. I actually just looked up ‘synonyms for beautiful’ because I’m running out here! Thankfully we’re at the end…

So, here it is was. Did you like it? Have you read any of the books above? Do you agree/disagree with me? Did you enjoy them?

Oh, and I have one more thing to say. I have been getting one plus a lot in my brain from me quite a few questions along the lines of: what is happening with your blog? are you still posting? will you be continuing blogging?

Yes. As I said in my 6 monthsary (and that was my 57th post, so I think I’ve earned a tiny break) I AM NOT QUITTING. At least, I hope so.

What happened was I had a little bit of a, well, you could call it a burnout – where I had no ideas whatsoever. You’ll be pleased to know that time has passed *winks with joy* I am now fully recharged, and back bolder and crazier than ever! But I am changing my schedule a bit.

3 days was way too much posting – that’s how I got to around 10 posts a month – and since I stopped that, I’ve been trying to find a schedule that works. And now I think I’ve got it. Every Saturday morning (because that’s when I lie in) and SOME WEDNESDAYS. I’m going to aim for 5-7 posts a month – however that works out.

Thank you for sticking around and reading my extra long explanation of why I haven’t been posting lately! You guys are the best ever!

Oh, and for the first time in a games I haven’t used the scheduling tool! Part of this was pre-written – I’ve been working on it over the past few days, but I’m hitting publish now. As in, now. Thanks for reading xox

Wow. I can’t believe I made it here.

It’s been 6 months.

And now I must leave.

Kidding! Yep, you guys must hate me for that one 😂! I’m not going anywhere.

I didn’t think I’d last a week. I’ve seen my friends create blogs and then not use them much or at all and I just feel so happy to have a community of amazing friends who comment and actually like what I write. That was why I started marshmallow harmonies, and that’s the reason I’m going to continue. Along with many other reasons, of course. Oh, and I should probably mention that ‘This is a scheduled post – I wrote it on the weekend’ 😉

So. Where to next?

I’m not setting any long term goals yet. For now, I’m just happy blogging my heart out! (Not literally, or I’d be dead. And there are things I keep from you guys… but don’t we all!?)

Keep smiling, and have a wonderful day!

Naming this blog.

How did I come up with a name for this blog? Well, sit down and curl up…

So, first I made a list of words I could include. This included chocolate, books, music, a lot of words were on that list. Then I started creating combinations. So, one of my ideas was the chocolate bookcase. Looking back a lot of those ideas were bad.

I went through dozens. Literally. I had to enlist my parents help deciding. But then, in the shower (strangest place ever for inspiration to strike, I know) I got it. Marshmallow Dream. The second I got out I rushed into my room, and plugged in the site address to make my blog. I got a message saying URL has been taken. Try something else. Great.

So, like any self respecting person would do, I looked up marshmallow dream. Go on, look it up. I’ll wait.

I couldn’t believe it. The site had one post, had a tag line saying “this WordPress.com site is the bees knees”, and all in all, signs pointed to it being a blog generated by WordPress. Those bastards. Why did they have to pick the second best name?! I say second best because..

I was re-reading The Candymakers by Wendy Mass (great book by the way) and I got to a part where Philip is making

-SPOILER ALERT-

A harmonica with marshmallow in it. Marshmallow harmonies. Perfect.

So that, my dear friends, is how this blog came to be. Until next time,

Rhiana
