Since August was meant to be my month of cute fluffy contemporaries….. what better show than this to do a tag on.
(I mean,,, fluffy almost went out the window when I reread AFTG at the start of the month but we’re gonna ignore that.)
This show made me laugh a lot in lockdown, and I’m super excited to do it today!! I’m also running a little low on ideas so…. that’s where this comes in. I need to stop doing tags, but they’re fun and easy!!! <33
I also want to say thank you!!!! For all of your lovely comments – I know it’s taken me a while to respond to them all, and I’m super sorry to every one of you. I appreciate them and thank you so much I’m just…. very behind. Very very behind. Thank you for sticking around <33 love you all xxxx
jake peralta: a character who lives to be the hero
A character that I think is pretty similar to Jake (and that fits this prompt well) is Noam from The Fever King… the saviour complex he possesses blows my mind. (that sentence is one of the weirdest to be constructed yet but it’s staying.). I can’t really go into it because SPOILERS for TFK and TEH, but it’s kind of hilarious to watch this oblivious guy jump headlong into idiotic decisions for no good reason other than glory.
(He’s joining the is-smart-but-only-uses-one-braincell club: Neil Josten, Noam Alvaro, Percy Jackson, and me.) (also people who compare the tfc ship to the m/m trc ship….. good, but have you considered the tfk one? ;))
amy santiago: a character who empowers you
I immediately thought of Evelyn Hugo for this, because she’s just… so impressive?? Like,,, she makes bad decisions but OWNS THEM and is such an icon, no choice but to love her. (Also I’m pretty sure a lot of people would say her… no regrets.)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is such a powerful book in general – I had a long text conversation with my friend once she finished that mostly consisted of !!!!, THAT WAS SO AMAZING, and WHAT DID I JUST READ. The ending is heartbreakingly good, the whole book is a journey, and Evelyn Hugo is one of my favourite morally grey characters.
captain holt: a book with good representation
A book with representation I found to be really good is probably Final Draft!!! It’s so underrated, and is a beautifully written, diverse f/f contemporary about writers and pressure and first loves. I’m forever sad it’s not more well known because I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I talk about it a lot, but I think for good reason? Maybe? (Then again, it’s my blog and I do what I want!!! No reason required!!)
rosa diaz: a badass female character you’d hate to mess with
June from Legend!!! I love her so much and…. very scared of her tbh and wouldn’t want to even TALK to her in a million years. (Our first impression of her is scaling a bUILDING like Ms Iparis excuse me ma’am wHAT)
Other than June (who is really the star of the series) this book!! Full of people I am 10/10 in love with and at the same time terrified of because… that’s the entire crew. (Also I’m really very tempted to reread the books….. someone stop me)
charles boyle: an awkward but oh so loveable character
I am…. a little bit stuck on this question but that’s okay!!!
Maybe someone like Nash from What I Like About You because while he’s a little awkward and shy, he’s a gem and he’s WONDERFUL!!!! (Also deserved a lot better, tbh, but this isn’t about that.) I actually read this book recently and it’s about book bloggers (yay!!), cupcakes (that made me super hungry), and the you’ve-got-mail trope I love!! (Except there was no valid reason for the communication issues and it annoyed me so much.)
terry jeffords: the big guy who looks tough with a big heart
I feel like I have to say Ari from Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe because…. he’s just a massive softie who loves his family
and Dante at heart!!!
Besides loving Ari, I love love love this entire book with all my heart and if you pick it up PLEASE let me know because I’ll adore you eternally!!! (I mean, I love you all regardless but I still want to scream with you.)
gina linetti: a book or series on your tbr with a massive fanbase
I’ve been thinking about reading the Folk of the Air trilogy for a while now! I can just…. never seem to find the right time to want to read it??
It definitely has a big fandom though… and it’s just a little insane. I know many things about this book already (including, uh, the ship, because I think it’s hard to have a book blog/platform and not have seen it around).
scully and hitchcock: an iconic fictional duo
I’m not sure if it’s iconic as such but Darius and Sohrab from Darius the Great is Not Okay make me smile so much!!! The soccer and the joy and the tears and the pain!!!!
This book…. I always run out of things to say about it BECAUSE I’m trying not to go on a full rant but please know that this book is one of my favourites ever and I love it more than words can say. I’m so excited for the sequel (which hasn’t turned up yet!! Come on book delivery people!!!) and Darius is forever a favourite of mine.
adrian pimento: a loose canon of a character
Um,,,, The Foxhole Court… Andrew Minyard… Neil Josten… literally any of the Foxes….. just going to leave this here….
(They’re all idiots who just run around playing stickball and screaming all day I love them too much)
(And while Andrew and Neil are the least put-together tbh everyone is so while I named them…….. all of them are VERY shady and loose-canon-ish)
the vulture: the antagonist that steals the show
Lehrer from Feverwake (duology) is so complicated and I hate him, but oh my gosh he is so well written. The subtle manipulation and truly mind blowing details….. he’s awful, and props to Victoria Lee for creating such a character because it’s amazing.
(I know I said I try not to repeat books in tags…. it WORKED for the PROMPTS OKAY and I’m too tired to fix it)
cheddar: a sidekick you adore
I added this one! I really like dogs okay…… (and also my friend and I figured out I am 100% a dog and I won’t list the reasons here but they’re all very valid)
My all time favourite sidekick is not from a book, but I needed to mention this: Mushu, from Mulan. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH OKAY THE ICONIC SNARK AND LOVE AJKDJFKJDG
I guess if I had to pick a bookish one though, I’d….. let’s ignore how I’m struggling with this question even though I literally chose to add it…… say any of the De Lainey’s from The Boy Who Steals Houses because they’re wonderful wonderful creatures who I adore.
the pontiac bandit: the antagonist you can’t help but love
I hate that I love the Bonner sisters but I do!!! They’re just so magical and enthralling and ugh, I’m trash for them all.
Really, everyone in When the Moon was Ours is a litttttttle bit of an antagonist to everyone, but I love them all too much to care. (I really just said guess I’ll fall in love with everyone huh).
have you seen brooklyn 99? (did you like it?) are you trying to find funny/happy books/tv shows during covid-19 as well?
….since i never tag people just do it if you want to?? one of my Things™ is that i never do the tags i’m tagged for, i do random ones i just find,,, wherever, and i never tag people!!!
