I think I need to preface this with something: I have never read Percy Jackson, or anything by Rick Riordan.
…so why am I doing this tag?? There’s actually a couple of reasons!! One: y’all have been getting SO EXCITED about the TV show adaptation and I’m feeling so much love and positivity ❤ Two: I’m (hopefully) going to read it some time over the next couple of weks/months and I want to get excited about it!! You have all been so enthusiastic and I want in 🥺
I never had that quintessential favourite childhood book series – I never got into Harry Potter (thankfully!!!) and I never read Percy Jackson, barely even knew it existed until a couple of years ago. There’s no way I’m going to finish Harry Potter after everything that’s happened there, so why not PJO!!! (Also, people have screamed at me to read it and I am slightly terrified)
I’m really excited for this, and I’ll let you know what I think once I read them!! Thank you ever so much to May for creating this and the truly beautiful graphics that come with it!!
also I promise my reasons are valid and I am NOT doing this just to be like all the other girls (maybe)…. will this post ever see the light of day… who knows. this post is like 1.67k so i’m NOT deleting it.
- Thank the person who tagged you and link to their post.

Look my real favourite I am still in denial over actually liking it (spoiler: it’s all for the game series) so I will say something else!!
Probably Only Mostly Devastated because it was so cute and adorable and at the same time covered topics that were, I won’t lie, not the easiest to talk about.
It was hilarious and I loved the romance and the family banter!!! If you’re looking for a sweet read with a bit of burnt marshmallow angst, I would highly recommend this.
SO MANY. I am just in awe of writers in general?? Like,,,, you write a full length book and you get it published and it goes out into the world and ahHHhHh. I am absolutely obsessed with Maggie Steifvater because of the ability to foreshadow and plot such amazing intense fantasy things!! It’s just incredible???
…I mostly get recs from y’all now and I read… a lot of…. hyped books?? I want to support under hyped books though so drop some recs in the comments!!!
A book (that I feel like I’ve mentioned a lot recently??? Sorry???) that I think isn’t talked about much is Dress Codes for Small Towns which is so good??? I love it a lot and wish more people read it???
I’m really picky with what I read so most of the time I like books!!
However… I thought I’d like The Memory Book and it’s my first one star rate of the year. It had a pretty cover okay?? And decent reviews???
It just felt super awkward and badly plotted and the main character was a jerk and and and. I’ll stop talking because I don’t want to be TOO salty (I have a post planned where I just go OFF about something and it’s gonna be amazing!!!!)
Heartstopper I think is one of those books where you can go and read a chapter and it’s like coming home. It makes me so happy and gives me that ‘taking off your shoes and throwing yourself onto the couch’ vibe which I just love so much.
Other books I’d like to put in as honourable mentions: Autoboyography, Aristotle and Dante (etc etc), Darius the Great Is Not Okay, and Final Draft.
The Last Summer Of Garrett Girls features four sisters and I adore the relationships between them!! It’s told in alternate perspectives from each of them and I loved the insight between them all!!!
I loved the relationship but hated most of the sisters however. When I say most I mean Des. Vi was my absolute favourite, with Bea and Kat tying?? I’m not sure I just know I’m in love with Vi!!!
Alright I swear I read The Boy Who Steals Houses in like a minute but I actually spent most of my afternoon on it???
I didn’t want to put it down!!! It was addictive, and I am in love with Sam and all the De Lainey’s. I would highly recommend reading it in one sitting because the tears are drowned out by the funny moments you’ve just had!!! It balances out!!!
I am utterly in love with Six of Crows!! It does have a lot of hype around it and so many people love it but I’m proud to be a part of the band wagon!!!
The Dregs thrive off of banter and a nice found family so it makes sense that I’m in love with it!! The intricate heist planned is slightly secondary to that, but it just makes me so happy to read and to talk about!!!
I would HAPPILY be marooned with The Raven King (the whole series, but if I had to pick it would be this particular one!!) because a) so. much. happens, and b) I never remember the plot of it so it will be a nice surprise every time I read it?? Literally all I know is that kids are hunting for a sentient forest and there’s magic and Latin and funky stuff goes down.
I promise the book is better than that description.
I am so scared to say a book for this because I think it’ll get jinxed, but what the heck, I’m gonna do it.
I am super excited for The Henna Wars. I just think it’s going to have amazing representation, important discussions, enemies to lovers f/f (!!!) and I don’t see how it can go wrong???
Except, of course, if I hate it. Let’s not think about that. I don’t know what I will do if it sucks.
Two stand outs: The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks, and Darius the Great Deserve Better.
The former (which I don’t want to type again!!) I am desperate for. More Monty and Percy shenanigans? Yes please!!! And Darius the Great Is Not Okay I absolutely died over (in my top three books easy) and so why wouldn’t I want the sequel?! (also darius the great deserves a better cover i said what i said)
I’m saying Foolish Hearts for this and you can’t stop me.
I loved this book of fluff and cinnamon rolls so much!! Snarky Iris and soft Gideon and whatever-the-MC’s-name-was are all my kids and I’m actually shocked I liked it so much!!
Thank you to Olivia for shoving it in my face!!! I eternally adore you for that!!!
I am already like the other girls by doing this tag so I’ll be basic and say Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston because it’s actually hilarious.
The snark and the banter and the Infamous Powerpoint™ and the Turkeys are all too much for my weak heart to handle.
Legend is the first thing coming to mind when I think about books I read a long time ago but that I love so I’m sticking with it.
Not sure if it’s because it was the first YA book I really read or if it was actually good (it is good!!!) but it holds a special place in my heart and I love the characters and the plot and the wow-crime-and-snark aspect of it!!!
I get to talk about my current true love!!!
I did NOT want to read the end of the All For The Game series because of the ending and the game and I don’t want it to end. (spoiler: It Did.) Even though the ending was perfect I just cried so much because I knew I’d never not know what happens again and that only happens with special books so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I love my Foxes.
Confession time: I liked Hot Dog Girl?? Like, I think I had pretty low expectations and the cover blinded me with that colour scheme and I liked it more than it was worth maybe?? I didn’t LOVE it but I liked it more than everyone else.
A book that’s the flipped version of this prompt is A Very Large Expanse of Sea… I actually kinda hated it?? Don’t get the hype?? It was good with rep but like, just bored me so much.
Maybe it’s cause I sped through it in like a day and that clouded my view?? I was not a fan.
I WILL HAPPILY PUNCH ARISTOTLE AND DANTE FOR WHAT IT DID TO MY FEELINGS.
I couldn’t think about it for the rest of the day without getting sad and if that doesn’t say something I don’t know what does. It’s such a beautiful book and I love it so much!!!
Also! I feel compelled to mention that the other day I read some poetry to my friend while she drew :’)
(I am going to ignore this spoiler because!! I knew it anyway!! From having people I know irl talk incessantly about it!!!)
I think one of the best romances out there (for me!!!) is Tanner and Seb because it’s such a loving relationship that is so pure and ugh, I love them so much.
Honourable mentions because I can’t pick just one!!: Neil x Andrew (consent!!!! yes!!! no!!!), Kaz x Inej (they’re my kiDS okay!!), and Gansey x Blue (yes, it surprises me too that two of these are straight couples)
I tag anyone who wants to do it, but some specifics would be Paradeabelle @ Rhymes With Paradeabelle (for constantly pushing me to read PJO!!), Memo @ Memo4Books (because you got so excited when I announced I was reading it), and Olivia @ Purely Olivia (you ALSO thought I’d love it!!). If you’ve already been tagged I’m sorry 🙂
would you recommend me reading pjo? do you have any underhyped book recommendations for me? have you done this tag? (feel free to link and i’ll check it out!!) is it insane that i’ve done this?!
